Hi, I just recently bought my first Toyota, so I am still learning about them but so far I am in love with this car. It's got a few minor dents and dings here and there and needs major interior work, but other than that it is totally rust free, engine runs like a watch (the transmission is a different story), and the body is totally straight. Tell me what you think, and any info on where to find parts ect. would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Haz's Ke15 Sprinter

Decided that, upon viewing how active the blogs section was, a forum was the appropriate way of doing things?

I reckon this forum will be pretty much a "from this point forwards" sort of thing.
Current date 26-9-2016.

You can find my blog here should you want to have a look: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/blog/84-the-kids-ke15/

But before I start this forum off, I'd like to tell the story of how the car has progressed to the stage it is at now.

-From the beginning. From the very beginning, with every detail I'm willing to expose publicly. It's a pretty personal story so don't be surprised if there's sappy bits.

(Hope you like reading! :P)

Storytime:

So, currently being 16 years old, you'd wonder how I'd be in posession of a ke15, if a car at all.
Truth is, I got the car at thirteen years of age.

How?

Well, as much as I don't like to flap my mouth about it, in 2011, i was fortunate enough to recieve a randomly drawn prize at a fishing conpetition.(Back to Pedder 2011) At 11 years old, I had won a small dingey with a merc outboard and some bits and pieces. (Lucky bastard, I know.)

So, after about 3 months of "what the hell do I do with this" my dad and I decided that it would be a smart idea to sell it.
Good move.
Got a fair amount for it, and sat that arpund in the bank until one fateful day in Adam's driveway.

My dad and I were dropping off my Honda Z50 minitrail, my first bike, off at my dad's good mate's house as payment for work he'd done to my XR100R. (Yes, I'm a dirt bike kid too) being a thirteen year old, i wasn't paticularly interested in 'adult conversation' and my attention drifted to the red car sitting in the garage.

"What is that? That looks cool."
The conversation eventually shifted to the car itself. I soon found myself walking circles around it like a wedge-tailed eagle to a rabbit. Sitting in it pushing all the buttons and pressing all the pedals, pretending to run it through the gears etc. (I was thirteen, who could blame me?) I loved the thing. Adam fired it up for us. Sounded damn good to my ears. At one stage adam needed to go inside for something, and as me and my dad were looking into the tiny engine bay, he poked me and held up four fingers; mouthed the words "four grand". I was dead keen. What's more, so was dad. He was letting me buy it! (Ha!)

Subtly easing into the idea of actually buying it, we asked what he'd expect as a reasonable offer to be.
"Oh.. I don't really know to be honest."
"How does four grand sound?" I said.
...

Lots of waiting, lots of indecision. :)

Long story short, the car became properly mine in the June of 2013.
(Took it home on a quad bike trailer!)

I was very excited. So excited, that I decided to drive it up and down our 100m driveway. A lot.
(This was probably not the greatest thing for the car, but hey, it taught me hill starts and better clutch control.)

Aside from doing basic things like oil changes and radiator flushes, installing ariels and radios, not a lot of work was done to the car itself for quite some time.

I spent a lot of my time at school of course, working at Braaap motorcycles (yes, yes, gross isn't it?), the Royal Hobart Show, and now Woolworths.

Slowly gaining funds for her.
Emphasis on slow.

Given that I was REALLY into dirtbikes too, I'd spent a lot of money on those.
It was mid 2015, when I made a REALLY poor decision to trade my newly rebuilt CRF230F for a KX250 2 stroke. (A kx250 that probably hadn't been rebuilt in years. Or even had an air filter/oil change)

Stupid kid I was.

Long story short, this is a corolla thread after all, I lost about $4,500.
At the same time my job at Braaap went down the gurgler.

Was a pretty tough time for me at that stage. It was at that same time I started experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety. Things became really rough and many a time I had considered selling the car because I pressured myself into completing it, etc.

But, somehow amidst the cluster-ʞ©$ɟ of pretty much eveything going wrong, i managed to do at least one thing right and KEEP THE SPRINTER.

My first car, hopefully my last, too.

Moved the car to my mum's and made a bit of an effort at starting work. Took a lot of the chrome off, badges etc.

Truth be told, I probably spent more time driving the thing around the house than I did actually working on it.

Depression is a hard thing to cope with, and the Sprinter has always been a good outlet.

(Got the sads? Thrash the sprinter about.)

Took her for a spin down the road a couple times, too.

https://youtu.be/OEkvRyrMHuY

https://youtu.be/YbKPb_64BoI

We finally bit the bullet and handed the car over to a panelbeaters to have the front stonetray and panels etc straightened out.
$1500 later and the front end was pretty overrated.

Once home;

More or less just more driving and tinkering with small things...

Took it back to dad's just a few months ago now.

Since then, we've started some serious work. The car is now on the right track and looking as though it could be resprayed early next year, potentially even this year.

Once the bodywork is done, the car will rapidly progress. It'll go back together. Fast.

I can't wait to see it on the roads.

And while I'm still having trouble with my mental illness, one thing's for sure.

I don't want those keys belonging to ANYONE else.

So after selling my Stagea i needed a new daily driver..

I bought a 1978 Mazda 323 Bugeye needing minimal work. Did a few mods, Blew it up and then needed another daily while i fix it..

So i bought this!
Posted Image

1.6 Manual converted. 151000ks. Full nugget spec with total neglect, Weldy choppies etc shitbox

I had it for about 2 days before hating it so broke out the spanners.

Doing plugs discovered 3 different kinds of plug and burnt out points. Wound timing back to an acceptable level while i was there. Removed the weldy in favor of a 4.11 open diff and added some fresh shoes and wheel cylinders. While i was there i added an AJPS adjustable panhard bar i got cheap 2nd hand and some ke38 monroe gas shocks which hold the rear springs in perfectly captive with 3 coils off.

The car had shifting issues since the day i got it. Discovered the mastercylinder had been drilled out to 12mm.. Machined up a sleeve to drop it back to 5.5mm and everything was fine.

While inside i had to add 32 screws back into the dash that were missing after the heater core has been removed..

Had the car wheel aligned which revealed 12mm of toe out on one side..

After all of this car has been driving really nice. But still looked like a pile...

Treated it to a cut and polish and full detail. Added a passenger mirror and painted front and rear bars and grill will bumper paint.

Hotwires had to go so replaced them with a set of 13" Advan a3a's i had laying around home destined for the ke10 and took another 1/2 coil out of the front to even up the VN stance.

Result is a rather tidy reliable Daily. Future plans are not a real lot.. I may tint it, throw some spacers on the front..

Rust Bucket Ae94

Hey everyone, I'm new to the Rollaclub forum. Short story about how I got myself into this.
Few months back, was looking at owning my first car. Thought of the Corolla and really liked the aesthetics of the AE82 - AE94. Thought maybe I could find something to work on. So after 2 months of "research" (not comprehensive enough I would think), got myself an AE94 CSi Ltd (for about a week now). She's done about 290k and still runs pretty good. Got her for a decent price with my savings. Before getting her I already knew some restoration was needed and I was prepared to do it. Thought it would be a good learning experience for me to get down and dirty with the car. But looking at the rust now, I'm really scared to even get started on it, that it would become a huge mess and i would give up. Anyway here are some pics just to show you guys a rough idea.

IMG_2956.JPG
IMG_2966.JPG

The rust she has (a nightmare to me :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: )
IMG_2967.JPG
Windshield top
IMG_2969.JPG
Windshield from inside if you look up
IMG_2971.JPG
Passenger side frame (has a hole up top which water can seep into..)
IMG_2972.JPG
IMG_2968.JPG
Surface rust on the boot lid (theres actually more surface rust around the body but its not that bad YET)
IMG_2977.JPG
Front bumper on drivers side sits a little lower. Not sure why. (i'm thinking the mounts?)
IMG_2974.JPG
Body mould on one side came off half way. Thinking of removing it all. Any suggestions to do it without ripping the paint?
IMG_2978.JPG
Interior wise, Pretty neat. only drivers seat has small tear.
IMG_2973.JPG

I'm thinking of taking the whole car apart slowly. So that I could find and fix all the rust (need help on this too) - sand it down to bare metal, prime and paint etc.
I'm really just a newbie and hope it'll be a great learning experience for me.
Thank you to whoever that will read this thread and help give me some advice on where to get started. (pls be nice ;) )

Decepticon Ke70

Ke70 With Different Smaller Mods Etc

I bought this KE70 october last year (2015), and tought id make a build thread now. Its been a year and i have done some modifications to it. Gotten a lot of help looking at different threads here on Rollaclub, so thougt i'd just publish it. A little warning tho, I'm not a professional mechanic and I'm kinda learning as i go, I've had mopeds that I've worked on and a bmw that i kept ''hellastock''. So yeah I've gradually moved on to what in my eyes are more difficult things. And i have gotten a lot of help from my father who is a mechanic. Thought id just make a fast foward in pictures and some comments from when i bought it to where it sits now.

Bought it like this, from a 60-70 year old man who inherited the car when his father died 10 years ago. it had 63 000kms on it.
It has some body rust as far as i can see, the previous owner did some not that good rust repair with fiberglass, sikaflex and non color coded silver paint
Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Drove it home, here parked next to my bmw i had at the time.
Posted Image
An acquaintance of mine had some typically ''Jdm rims'' that i could try on the car, many of them were too wide but there were some ssr mesh that seemed like a good size.
The car seemed even higher on these wheels, in the second picture he jumped into the trunk. :P
Posted ImagePosted Image

Thought it looked a lot better now tho :D
Posted ImagePosted Image
Had a little fun :laff:

Posted Image
Stock 4k-C painted the top of the airfilter
Posted Image
Changed the steeringwheel and added some other bits, the keychain thingy turned out to be super annoying so i took that down.
And i changed the original radio for a more modern Pioneer with aux :)

Posted ImagePosted Image

Winter hit! :D Ssr's are off and stock winter wheels are on
Posted Image
And it hit harder.... got some rust over this winter, In the winter theres a lot of salt on norwegian roads  Never had any problems starting in the morning tho!
Posted Image
Decided to remove the black trim along the sides of the car. Looked better in my opinion, but some of the glue is stil on the car, havent gotten some of it off yet. In the front some glue even ripped the paint off 8S
Posted ImagePosted Image
This one might get a little hate.. but i changed the rear muffler, its not too loud idling and on lower rpm, but is way too laud on higher, gonna install another muffler in front of it afterwards.Posted Image
Wanted speakers in the rear too, the original material behind the seats were way too thin to hold two speakers, so i made a new plate out of wood, after the picture was taken i stapled black cloth around it, looks lowkey. sad I don't have a picture of that.Posted Image
I ended up buying those Ssr's and got them powdercoated in candy red, when the light hit them at the correct angle they glow :)
Posted ImagePosted Image
On the car
Posted Image
Wanted to lower it so i bought a complete suspesion from another ke70, thinking I'd just chop that set, never liked the idea of chopped springs tho. But then a coilover set for a carina TA60 popped up and i bought them, very bad condition tho.
Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Installed some fender mirrors and made a bracket for where the old mirrors sat. Also got myself a lip, The lip is powdercoated so it's not the same color nor metallic, but it was free I'm probably going to paint the whole car afterwards anyway :)
Posted ImagePosted Image
The coilovers got sandblasted and had ordered some ae86 5.1kg rear springs from technotoytuning and some kyb ae86 schock inserts for the coilovers. All of it is getting powdercoated black for the max stealthyness :D
Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image
Ran into a problem with the shock inserts, the ae86 schocks were a bit longer than the TA60, we ended up cutting out the bottom of the tube and welding it in further down.
Posted Image

And that meant installing it was next, me and my father did this over a weekend :) got some rear Koni adjustable rear shocks for the te71 for the rear. And had to buy new calipers becouse it just wouldnt be cheaper to rebuild the original ones.

Old vs new rear springs
Posted Image
Coilover refurbished
Posted Image
Back and front wheelwells now
Posted Image
Posted Image
Lowered in the rear, got an original Hella grill straight from the 80's :D
Posted Image
Lowered onto the ground had to roll the rear fenders, a lot. :D
Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image
This is how it sits now, the car got really stiff and the original seats just bounce you around, so i went ahead and bought a k sport seat. Its used but it seems to be in okey condition and i got new seat rails :) haven't figured out how to mount it yet tho, the KE70 have a wierd way to mount the orinial seat. So if anyone have done that before and have any tips about that id apreciate it :)Posted Image

Ke70 Auto To Manual Transmission Swap

Name: Mitchell

Car: 1982 Toyota Corolla KE70

Motor & Driveline: stock 4k-c auto, soon to be manual 4 speed

Suspension & Brakes: stock

Wheels & Tyres: stock

Interior: Vinyl Back seats, Front Cotton ripped so got sheep skin covers on them

Body: got a lot of rust in the boot, and doors, swapped the front doors to AE71 doors, I think they look way better.

Other:
I got the car because it was cheep and they are easy to fix. also my Mum, Dad and Grandma, had one each all at the same time back in the 80's, so I grew up hearing about the cars. My Mum and Grandma, both had KE70 sedans
and they were the light blue colour ones. They both got them the same day from the same dealership and the number plates were different by one number so my mum got the door rubber guards so they could tell them apart.
My dad had the AE71 Wagon, and he told me just the other day, (these are his words not mine) "The 5 speed wagons flew, I was once going on a camping trip with your Mum, going up to Queensland, and I was going down a mountain,
and there was not a single soul on the road, so I just floored it. I got pulled over doing 170 kph, and the cop said I'm not gonna give you a ticket cause no one is gonna believe me that you were going 170. I got off with a warning." XD
I'm upgrading the transmission to the t-40 4 speed manual, the auto still works, but slow, the engine it self is overrated, the car is also in half good nick, lots of rust but nothing that can't be cut out or rust converter put on it.
The car was owned buy a nun and a co-worker of the nun, only driven on weekends to church, got it off an old lady. comes from South Australia, Adelaide, now in Victoria Melbourne.
needs a paint, the parts are all good, no dents, only rust holes, and their not visible, needs a good fix, I have a YouTube channel that I'm showing the build of it. starting to look good.

Well it's been a long time since I've had a project, but picked up this ke20 from a mate's dad looking to get rid of some vehicles.

It's had a respray at some stage, as well as new springs and discs just before he took it off the road 7 years ago and it has just sat there. Plan is just to tidy up the body, get it running and then registered.

Few things need to happen though
  • Rust repairs driver's side fender
  • Driver's door fouls on fender (opened when I went to look at it the other day so don't know if it's moved during transport)
  • Grill and bumper wonky (doesn't look like from impact damage, just poorly reset)
  • Brakes have no fluid in the reservoir
  • Hasn't started for awhile so need to get it running, maybe even a 4k (someone nearby has one, what are they worth these days?)
I'm sure there will be more, but really just want to get a blue slip and get it registered to enjoy it.

Afterwards
  • Twin sidies
  • Cam?
  • Exhaust?
  • Lower it by 2-3"
  • Flares and superlites or something
Not looking for something to win shows, just something to enjoy driving.

So i got a message from guy that said "I have a 67 station wagon, Very rough"..

After a quick call, with cash in had i went and had a look... A 1st wagon has been something i've dreamed of since i can ever remember.. And the thought of one being so close to me for so long... I had to have it.

It was rough... The car had sat in a long grass paddock since early 1990's.. And it showed. Every panel dented, rusted.. Hyper extended door, rat piss interior "Ran when parked"... I had to save it.

I paid the man, Organised a truck and it arrived the next day.

So, Here it is.. My 1967 Ke16!

Ciao from Athens!
I want to share some pics of my red diva with the community.
She was bought a couple of years ago from a mariner who drove her rarely and was stored most of the time in his garage.
She has about 130.000 km on speedo, the interior and engine bay are in like new condition, completely rust free wheels, engine bay, around the chassis and inside the trunk..

Maintenance wise, just the basic stuff:
upon delivery I replaced the oils, filters, spark plugs, contact points, rear diff oil, fitted new tyres and some water cooling lines which looked not good to the eye and to the touch (more like a preventive action).

I rarely use her for daily city commuting, (have a scooter for that) so I enjoy quality time with her over the weekends driving around the twisty countryside roads or just hitting the highway..

enjoy the pics!
:)

Phil's Ke25/te2X Conversion

$

0
In completion of my AE86 project (which has been promoted to my 'Sunday Fun-day car, this is a very high rank) I have bought myself a pre-facelift KE25... for some reason.

Have scored myself so far,
KE20 1200 HI-Delux front guards, bonnet (not pictured) and grill setup from Japan
TE27 Trueno rear tail lights from Japan
4k and K40 locally

I predict that this will be a 2+ year long project, but looking forward to it none the less!
Posted Image

Still accumulating a few things.
-The matching bonnet is on the way (TE27 sprinter)
-The grill support/radiator support panel is on the way. The sprinter version which varies from the Levin and Corolla range. Quite the steal.
-TE27 levin boot (just in better condition than the one I have currently). Though I will try find a sprinter badge to match the front guards.

The car will also be painted this blue/turquoise colour. It is an original Toyota colour but will have to somehow find the paint code for it.

We also have a small port 4A-GE which I have been kitting out with my RWD specific partrs today. I will either be putting it in this KE25 or my KE20, still undecided.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Alas, after waiting a little while for the Stacked/ML Racing container to come to NZ I have received my KE20 Hi-Deluxe bonnet
Little dented but car will be getting fully stripped repainted so not overly concerned. That is what the panel beater will have to worry about.

Will be rebuilding the small port over the coming wee while and get some mounts made up for it. Once that's all done it'll be panel and paint time.

Now time to find a good condition valance...

Posted Image

Posted Image

I doubt there are many photos around, but does anyone have a photo of how these red dots were mounted originally?

Posted Image

Well, have sold the KE20 and the guy wanted the original running gear in it. Removed the hilux rear end and coil over front end (from a starlet I think originally).
Had some TA63 LCA's lying around and though I would try them with the struts I had, they are about 25mm longer than standard and mated up the the struts so chuffed about that!

Now as you can see the tie rods don't really reach that far... would wind them out if they weren't rusted and actually let me to turn them out. ah well. Looks quite staunch for the time being.

Posted Image

Posted Image

On the list over the coming weeks
#Rebuild 4A-GE Small port.

have bought heaps of OEM bolts and a few things from Bazza at MRP and also some TODA gear in from Japan. Should be a beautiful engine bay somewhere down the line

Well. Bit of an update here.

Saw a fella put up his KE25 on one of the pages on FaceBook, then the next weekend I was off to pick it up.
Has been sand blasted and 80% epoxy primed. This shell is much straighter than the previous shell, though the rust patches are probably more prominent. Just little holes where as the old shell was covered in bog in areas and was all bent around the rear under the bumper. I think the new shell will be a lot easier to work on than the old one, and being sand blasted and primed means I don't have to do get it done.

Here it is nicely tucked onto the smallish trailer I bought it back on. Did the job just fine
Posted Image

And here we have the LOWRIDER KE25!! The height is atrocious for now, however I am waiting on some TE27 knuckes so can slap some AE86 struts in there

Also scored these interior pieces in from Japan. You'd think they were brand new the condition that they are in

Sprinter air vents. Pretty much finished the sprinter conversion. Been a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

I've bought some 4A-GE - KE2X engine mounts and will get the engine rebuilt, drop it in then get it going Jan - February.
Much more to come, exciting times ahead. Or is the word more appropriate "Expensive". Both I guess.

Today, Christmas kept on rolling over.
Received:
TODA Cam pulleys
TODA Timing Belt
TODA Underbucket shim conversion kit
TODA Uprated springs
Uprated oil spring for higher pressure.
Enroute:
290deg 10.3mm & 282deg 10.10 Kelford cams

The Small port 4A-GE bottom end is nearing completion of the rebuild, and the head will be going up to the trusty Baz at MRP for a complete head port next month. It will receive Atlantic size valves also. If I ever want to turbo this thing one day the engine will only need minor changes and will be an absolute trooper.
The bottom end will remain stock for the time being. One day when I can afford to do the bottom end I will but that day will probably when a hair dryer goes on it

I also received some sprinter rear vents which look overrated! Brand new too

So have started assembling the short block now.
All the bolts are brand new, spent hours tracking down all of the part numbers for them so have got a box full of OEM bolts to finish the engine.

I received the block back from Motor Machinists in Palmerston North, and had done:
Block - decked, honed and cleaned
Crank - Polished, crack tested, balanced
Rods - Balanced
Flywheel - Balanced (MRP Light weight)
They also cleaned the pistons and have come up brand new!

Starting to look like a real engine now. Oil pump was not brand new however inspected, and also installed the higher pressure spring.

The head is being sent up to MRP for a full port and polish, and complete blow head job and expected to be back in 3 weeks.
Now just have to track down a T50 which will probably come from Japan and get that rebuilt. I might attack it myself or just take it in to get done by the pro's.

Well, I bought the wrong piston rings as didn't know that there were two different sizes (the top ring on most is 1.5mm where as the small port and late GZE use a 1.2mm top ring)
Ordered some overnight and installed everything today.
Short block complete, will next have an update once Barry has finished with the head Posted Image
